BIG Inc. Shore Base

Conceptualization

The Business In Gear Inc. (BIG Inc.) Guyana Shore Base project was initiated in 2018. Closely following the successful progress of ExxonMobil offshore exploration, it was apparent that the Oil industry in Guyana would eventually require a World Class Shore Base to meet the natural evolution of the industry for the unprecedented potential of The Co-operative Republic of Guyana.

An experienced team of professionals with O&G, Technology, Management, Business and Finance backgrounds, was formed. The team included members with aptitudes specifically from ExxonMobil operations of Shore Bases and logistics management around the world. With their knowledge and network in Shore Base operations, we proceeded to conceptualize the short, mid and long term needs and requirements for the emerging O&G industry in Guyana, and drafted a blueprint of Shore Base development.

Planning

From hands-on knowledge of ExxonMobil stringent Standards and Best Practices, the team set about defining the performance requirements that would meet ExxonMobil demands. These consisted of a number of parameters including accessibility, turn-around times, stock items and services of the Shore Base facilities to meet Project and Production requirements.

With specific performances in mind, the team concentrated on identifying a suitable location for the Shore Base. This exercise was guided by first hand experience in Managing the Logistics and Operations of ExxonMobil Shore Bases in Africa and Asia. The limitations of certain locations, services constraints and layout configurations also played a role in the selection process. Leveraging on performance criteria that influenced cost efficiency and revenue rationalization, several locations were investigated.

The result, a compliant location with innovative design benefiting from out-of-the-box thinking, technology, cost consciousness, efficiency and environmentally friendly operations. The design aims to be a first-in-the-world green sustainable Shore Base, not only preserving natural resources but also creating a neutral carbon footprint. A controversial goal for an Oil & Gas facility!

Implementation

In finalizing the Base design, the benefit of our operating partners with hands-on experience and real-time statistics provide valuable insight into cost effectively meeting demands and overcoming constraints of the operating environment. The BIG Inc. design benefits from the teams’ management of both offshore and onshore oil and gas logistics and infrastructure developments and greenfield start-ups in Malaysia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Angola and Indonesia.

Local Content is at the top of our agenda, not just in human capital, but in the broader benefit to the country. The Local Content Nationalization programs implemented successfully by members of our team in Angola, Indonesia and Malaysia, contributes greatly in understanding what works, prospective scope of localization (beyond skills and trades), processes, systems and collaborations that directly improve involvement, development and utilization of local resource, materials, service providers and ancillary services.

The aim is to design and construct all of the infrastructure and facilities per ExxonMobil specifications, from scratch (i.e. a greenfield custom built development) driven by the hands-on experience of BIG Inc. and benefiting from our partners knowledge and insight in designing, building and operating greenfield facilities in several markets.

Our Family

More than 80 combined years of ExxonMobil experience, network and reputation has helped us in attracting and procuring a formidable array of Production Sharing Contractors (PSCs); Services Companies, Suppliers and Manufacturers of Oil and Gas Equipment.
